Life after treatment · Step 5 of 8
Survivorship
Treatment is behind us, and we are finding a new normal.
What to expect
Survivorship is its own long chapter. There are follow-up visits, possible late effects, and the work of rebuilding ordinary life, school, friendships, and routines. Fear of recurrence can come and go for years. Support that lasts beyond active treatment makes a real difference, sometimes decades later.
First steps
- Keep your survivorship care plan and follow-up schedule somewhere safe.
- Watch for late effects and bring questions to follow-up visits.
- Support your child's return to school and friendships.
- Check in on your own mental health. Caregivers carry this for a long time.
